Evaluation.......ugh! I must, of course, have some way of determining what you are learning. This is perhaps the least exciting aspect of teaching, but, alas, a necessary task. We have to be sure to meet the requirements of what my colleagues refer to as academic integrity. To this end, we will be doing several styles of evaluation.

1. The first area of evaluation will require that you demonstrate systematic investigation of sociology by completing a set of review questions for each chapter. To do this you will need to go to the Chapter Reviews page, complete the multiple choice review questions (15 per chapter) for each chapter, and submit them to me via the built-in communication system (be sure to include your name and email address). I want you to use your textbook as you complete the review questions. Of course, if you have read and studied the chapter first, the likelihood of success is greatly enhanced. You will need to complete this task in accordance with the course calendar.

The people at the College always assure me that their system is bullet-proof, but I think we should anticipate glitches. If such should arise, not to worry. Tell me about the problem and we will devise some kind of work-around. Please, please recall my earlier admonition. A NOTE OF PRECAUTION - set up your email system to automatically create a backup copy of any out going documents. This simple act can save lots of effort if the demons of the email system happen to eat your document. Stop right now and check your email configuration.

Each review question is worth two points (Total points=15 questions x 2 points x 24 chapters = 720 points).

2. The second form of evaluation is for you to go to the WEB Explorations screen. Each chapter includes linked WEB sites and an associated writing activity. I would like for you to visit and complete the activity questions for THREE of these WEB sites. The choice of which three is yours. I would like your written responses to be between 350 and 400 words in length. Reports less than 350 words will not receive full credit. You will need to email your answers directly to me (Stelle-online@hughes.net). Please feel free to use a spelling and grammar checker on your answers.

Each WEB Exploration activity is worth 200 points (Total points= 3 activities x 200 pts.= 600 pts.).

**Owing to the quantity of email that I must process, I DO NOT ACCEPT ATTACHMENTS. The tests must be posted within a normal e-mail document.

3. The final element of your grade is pretty simple. I will give you 20 points for completing a course evaluation.

To summarize the grading scheme:

Chapter Reviews 720 points
WEB Explorations 600 points
Evaluation 20 points
TOTAL 1340 points

Grades will be assigned on the basis of the following point totals:

A 90%-100% 1206-1340 points
B 80%-89% 1072-1205 points
C 70%-79% 938-1071 points
D 60%-69% 804-937 points
