Homework Responsibilities:

Homework will be given throughout the semester and you will be expected to keep up with the homework as assigned.  It will be announced at the end of class which problems from the book will be assigned for homework.  The assigned homework should be completed before the beginning of the next class.  As much as possible, get any questions that you may have on the homework answered before coming to the next class.  You can see me in my office or go to Peer Tutoring (Cooperative Learning Center - D120).

The purpose of homework is to gain practice at what is being shown in class.  In addition to this, the homework prepares you for the quizzes and tests.  You will not be able to pass the tests unless homework is done on a daily basis.

You should have one notebook or folder designated for homework in this class.  "Homework checks" will be given periodically through the semester.  During a homework check I will ask you to copy a few of your solutions to a separate piece of paper and turn this in.  I will then grade these based on how much work is shown and whether the solutions are correct.  These homework checks will not be announced ahead of time, so you should bring your homework notebook to class everyday.

Quizzes:

Quizzes will be given on a regular basis.  The problems on these quizzes will be very similar to problems assigned on the homework.  Quizzes will typically be announced ahead of time.
Exams:

There are 4 one hour exams throughout the semester and a comprehensive two hour final exam at the end of the semester.

                Exam 1                    Chapter 1

                Exam 2                    Chapter 2

                Exam 3                    Chapter 3 & 4

Final Exam             The day class has their final on Monday,  May 7th  (11:00–1:00)

The day class has their final on Tuesday,  May 8th  (6:00–8:00)

Attendance Policy:

The attendance policy in this course goes with the policy stated in the Parkland College Catalog.  It says:  "Regular and prompt attendance is expected at all classes" except in cases involving illness or emergency which should be brought to the attention of the instructor.  "Regular attendance and consistent study habits are considered necessary for academic success in college.  Faculty members have prerogative of lowering grades for excessive absence."

Makeup Policy:

No make ups will be allowed on quizzes, worksheets, or homework checks.  Your two lowest scores will be dropped at the end of the semester (it might be two quizzes, or two homeworks, or one quiz and one worksheet, or . . . . ).  No grades which result in zero due to cheating will be dropped.  If you know ahead of time that you will be absent from class when a worksheet is due, you should turn in your worksheet early.

If you are absent the day of a test, you will need to contact me before the test or on the day of the test to let me know.  When this happens you might be allowed to take the missed exam on your next day of class, depending on the circumstances.  A make up exam may not be as easy as the regular exam so it is in your best interest to be in class on the days of exams.

Academic Honesty:

Unethical conduct during examinations or in preparation of assignments designated by the instructor will not be tolerated and may result in disciplinary action.  Repercussions can include (but not limited to):  a zero for that assignment/exam, an F for the class, or being expelled from Parkland.

Material To Be Covered:

We shall cover chapters 1, 2, 3, 4, and 6 in the textbook.  The material will include the following topics:  trigonometric functions, fundamental identities, graphing, solving trigonometric equations, inverse trigonometric functions, complex numbers and vectors.
