CHEMISTRY 222 & 223 PROFESSOR WILLIAM J. TREADWAY, JR. btreadway@parkland.edu OFFICE: M-117 PHONE: (217)351-2550 HOURS: M, T, R 10 AM M, R 11 AM Chemistry 222 & 223 are introductory biochemistry courses. Chemistry 222 is concerned with proteins and enzymes. Chemistry 223 is concerned with metabolism. The material is presented in sequence; what you learn today will be the basis for what you learn tomorrow. LECTURE-DISCUSSIONS Lectures and discussions provide an opportunity for you to tie together the various aspects of the course. The most important learning goals and principles will be emphasized. You are encouraged to ask questions. LEARNING OBJECTIVES A list of learning objectives will be handed out for each chapter covered. Quiz and exam questions will be related to these objectives. PROJECTS Projects will be assigned from time to time. Projects will be worth 20% of the course grade. EXAMS There will be four exams during the semester. One exam grade will be droped at the end of the semester. Each exam will be worth 20% of the course grade. The Final Exam will also be worth 20% of the course grade. The Final Exam will not be droped. Questions will be based on the learning objectives and class material. GRADES In general, a score of 89.5% or better on any written material will be considered an A. Similarly, 79.5% and above is a B, 69.5% and above is a C, and 59.5% and above is required for a D. OFFICE HOURS You will need help from time to time. Feel free to see me during scheduled office hours at Parkland. Make an appointment if these times are unavailable to you. CONFLICT POLICY If you have a serious and valid conflict, call in advance and as soon as possible to arrange to complete the work. (If you are unable to reach me, leave a message on Phone Mail.) GENERAL DIRECTIONS FOR SIGNING-ON NovaNET Instructional Technology Lab (ITL): Room X115 1. On the display page, type the name of your NovaNET group >pc200 and press Enter (NEXT). 2. Type your NovaNET name (small letters) >last name (space) first initial and press Enter (NEXT) again. 3. Next, type your password by Password >. As you type, you will see only a line. If you have typed it correctly (as entered originally), you may continue by pressing the Enter (NEXT) key. Pressing Enter (NEXT) will take you to your work on NovaNET or will give you the message that your password is wrong. If you made a mistake, just press Enter (NEXT) and try it again. 4. Follow the directions on each display to either choose a lesson to study or to continue through a lesson that has already been started. If all else fails, press the Enter (NEXT) key to continue -OR- ask the Monitor on duty for assistance. 5. To sign off the terminal, press SHIFT-STOP twice. |
