Directions and Parking

*.pdf file of the Carbondale street and lodging map

You can find a campus parking map at

http://www.siu.edu/siumaps/siupark.html

If you click on a specific facility you will either get a picture of the building or an enlargement of the map. The student center is the large building immediately west of the football stadium. Faner Hall (Saturday) is the long north-south "slotted" structure north of the student center. Parking lots are in grey on the enlarged maps. A Carbondale map will also be available on the CAI web site as a pdf file.

Friday evening for Board and Business Meetings at the Student Center.

1.From the motel areas on Route 13 East, proceed west of Route 13. Cross the railroad tracks and take the second left on US 51 South.

2. Head south of US 51, go through four traffic lights.

3.You will take the main campus entrance on the right by the football stadium after you go past the Grand Street intersection (the 4th light).

4. After the turn, the student center will be ahead of you and the stadium on the left. There will be a two story concrete garage on the right. Turn in there and park anywhere, especially on the ground floor, other than in handicapped spaces. If that is full for some reason, you may park in the Blue sticker (staff) lots that you access by turning right before you get to the two story garage. Staff lots are open season after 4 PM and on weekends. There is also a metered pay lot (quarters only) behind the stadium, across the street from the student center.

Saturday for Faner Hall, Museum Auditorium.

The Museum auditorium is located in the north end of Faner Hall on the ground floor. Faner Hall is the building I like to describe as a bare concrete skyscraper that fell over on its side. You can park in the parking garage where you did on Friday evening, but you will have to walk to the far north end of Faner Hall to the museum entrance. You can park closer in an internal lot (Lot 6) located immediately north of the library and adjacent to Faner Hall. This is a staff lot, but, again, these are open on weekends.

To get to Lot 6, proceed south on US 51, but shortly after the second traffic light (College St), the road swings to the left. In the middle of that turn, take a short street segment that veers off to the right and comes down to a 4-way stop. Note: the Carbondale map shows the old configuration of the streets, when the side street simply went straight ahead and university avenue swung to the left. Go straight through the 4-way stop to the top of the hill where there is a circle and a flagpole. Turn right and proceed past the Altgeld Hall construction about 100 yards to the entrance to the parking lot on the left. You will pass a turn-off that leads to a circle at the museum entrance. Do not park there, as the campus police are sometimes finicky about this circle even on weekends. There would be some risk of being

Lodging and Travel

There is no official meeting hotel. Carbondale has an array of hotels in the medium to inexpensive ranges. Almost all of these are situated on State Highway 13 east of downtown. A Carbondale map can be downloaded as a pdf file.
