Writing Assignment

General information :
Fall Semester, 2008
Please don't think of these as the "due dates" for your papers. There are no due dates, you can turn in your papers at any time. The dates listed on your syllabus are the last day you can turn in your paper and still get FULL credit. ANY PAPER RECEIVED AFTER CLASS HAS ENDED ON THE "CUTOFF DATE" WILL BE CONSIDERED LATE. LATE PAPERS WILL REDUCE IN POINT VALUE BY 10% FOR EACH SCHOOL DAY (starting after class) IT IS LATE. Please turn in all papers to me personally, or if that is impossible, put them in my mail box in the Social Sciences and Human Services Office in
D-179.
It's just a given that all work you submit is your own: researched, constructed, and organized by you, written by you, and in your own words.
Taking someone else's work and then changing a few things and submitting it as if it is your own is plagiarism. (A good rule of thumb is: If a person can take an uncited line from your paper, do a GOOGLE search on it and easily find the specific web site you used for your information, then the work you submitted is not yours, it is someone else's - and therefore plagiarism.)
Submitting work as yours when ANY essential portion of that material has been taken from another source which has not been clearly documented with proper citation of author and source is plagiarism.
Submitted assignments containing any plagiarized material will automatically be given a score of 0 (zero) for the entire activity. Other consequences may also apply, especially for subsequent offences. Please see the Parkland College Academic Honesty Policy for further information.
If you are confused, have a problem, or need help with the writing assignment, don't sit and fret, SEE ME! (D-165), CALL ME! (373-3718) or E-MAIL ME! (jfoust@parkland.edu). I would be more than happy to answer questions or look over a rough draft to let you know if your on the right track.
