About Fireworks
|
Fireworks is a Macromedia product. Macromedia also publishes Dreamweaver and Flash (among other software applications). All three applications are tightly integrated as a suite which can be purchased for $999 ($290 for academics at vendors like JourneyEd). Macromedia was recently acquired by Adobe, the publisher of Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign. The industry anticipates tigher integration between all of the above software packages in the future. Fireworks is designed as a web graphics application. It handles raster (bitmap) images as well as Photoshop. It also has vector drawing tools as robust as Adobe Illustrator. Although both Photoshop and Illustrator have more "bells and whistles," Fireworks has all the tools a designer needs for typical "day-to-day" operations of web site design and creation.

About the Workshop

This is a hands-on workshop. I will be leading you through three short "tutorial" style lessons covering the basics of Fireworks. I'm also going to assume that you are comfortable in the Windows environment and have no trouble opening and saving files. During the lessons:
