Audience Analysis Practice

Directions:  In the appropriate conference on our class WebBoard (YourGroup; Audience Exercise), practice Rhetorical Analysis.

Post:
First, read this editorial.

Next, briefly (10-15 sentences) discuss who you think the intended audience is. Factors to consider:

  • What overall population (country, in particular) is the article aimed at?
  • Roughly what age groups are included in the audience?  Which are excluded?
  • Is it targeted at one particular gender more than the other?
  • What level of education and general awareness of current events is presumed?
  • What socio-economic statuses are included?  Excluded?
  • What ethnicities are included?  Excluded?
  • What religious backgrounds are included?  Excluded?

Support your contentions with specific points from the editorial.

Response:
Respond to two of your group members' posts (if others have posted already, try to respond to someone who hasn't gotten a response yet). You know the drill: challenge, expand on, respond in some significant way.
