 Directions:  In the appropriate conference on our class Web Board, discuss one or all of the following. 
  1. What does the birthmark symbolize to Aylmer? Consider both what he thinks it symbolizes to him, and what it might come to symbolize to him throughout the course of the story.
  2. What does it symbolize to other characters, in particular Georgiana?
  3. Why does Georgiana die when the birthmark is finally removed?
