River of Names

Directions:  In the appropriate conference on our class Discussion Board, discuss one or all of the following.
  1. "River of Names" falls into a category that might loosely be called the confessional - writing to purge a variety of emotions, including guilt (often survivor's guilt).  What might the narrator's purpose be in telling these events?  To whom is she telling them?
  2. What legacies from her childhood does the narrator carry with her?  How does she convey those legacies?
  3. What do you make of the final line, "But I lie"?
