Directions: In the appropriate conference on our class
Discussion Board, discuss one or all of the following.
- "River of Names" falls into a category that might loosely be
called the confessional - writing to purge a variety of emotions,
including guilt (often survivor's guilt). What might the narrator's
purpose be in telling these events? To whom is she telling them?
- What legacies from her childhood does the narrator carry with
her? How does she convey those legacies?
- What do you make of the final line, "But I lie"?
