Snow, Glass, and Apples

Directions:  In the appropriate conference on our class Web Board, discuss one or all of the following.
  1. "Snow, Glass, and Apples" is obviously a retelling of "Snow White."  At what point in the story did you recognize it?  What was the element that made you recognize it?  Choose one element from the traditional fairytale and briefly explore how Gaiman twists it, and what effect that twist had on your reading.
  2. Notice how none of the characters are given names.  The narrator never reveals hers, and refers only to "My husband, my love, my king," "the princess" or "my stepdaughter," and "the Prince."  What effect does this have on the story and your reading?
  3. One one the major themes of the story is sex and sexuality, from the narrator's embracing of her sexuality to the sexual aspects of vampirism to the Prince's preferences.  Choose one aspect of this theme and explore how it is played out in the story, its literal and symbolic function
