Respiratory Care Program

Parkland College's Respiratory Care program has been in existence since 1971 (See following Graduation Classes)

Graduation Classes

The program is accredited by the Committee on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC), which is under the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). The program prepares students to become Registered Respiratory Therapists (RRT). Graduates of Parkland College's Respiratory Care program are eligible to take the RRT credentialing examination, which is administered by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).

General Education Courses Required for Parkland's Respiratory Care Program

In addition to the respiratory therapy coures, the student must also take the following general education courses to receive an Associated in Applied Science (AAS) degree from Parkland College:

BIO 121, BIO 122, BIO 123, MAT 131 (or MAT 095), ENG 101, ENG 102, PSY 110 (or PSY 105), and a Social Science and/or Humanities elective.

The student is encouraged to take as many of the general education coureses -- particularly the biology and mathematics courses -- prior to entering the Respiratory Care program.

COUNSELING CENTER

The Counseling Center (located in A251) welcomes students seeking academic careers, and personal counseling. the counselors help students with educational and career plans as well as personal issues. The counseling Center is open 8: a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m on Friday. To make an appointment or for more information, call 217-351-2219.

Although students may make appointments with any councelor (or may be seen as walk-ins on a first-come, first-served basis), the following is most active in Respiratory Care counseling:
