| Exceptions |
Comments
Exceptions have been one of the most successful additions to Object Oriented programming languages in the last 15 years. The provide a good solution to a persistent problem in most large programs -- errors usually happen in the low-level, highly nested specialized function calls, but they have to be handled by the higher level, more general calling functions. This seems to be a common characteristic of most significant programs. In the past the solutions for this problem were ad-hoc and inconsistent. Exceptions have provided a consistent, well-structured solution.
