Class Attendance

Programming is a skill that you can only learn well by doing, and class is the best place to program because of the ready availability of help. We will discuss some practical techniques in class that are not covered in the book. Also, you are responsible for everything said or handed out in a class, whether you attend that particular class or not. Good participation and effort in the in-class exercises are necessary to get credit for attending a class.

Attendance in class and full participation and effort in the class is required. If you do not attend and fully participate in at least 3/4 of the classes and exercises your final course grade may be reduced by a single letter grade. If you do not attend and fully participate in at least 2/3 of the classes and exercises your final course grade may be reduced by two letter grades. Students that miss more than ½ of the classes and labs will receive a course grade of 'F'.

Grading

This course is graded using an achievement grading system. You receive points for completing each project and test. Your final grade is determined by how many points you earn. Points will be awarded for completion of specific tasks project or test.  The grading criteria will be clearly described before you start work.  You will always have a least one week prior notice of the due date for all graded material.  There will be no "pop" tests or surprises.  Most grading is done interactively with the instructor, with the instructor giving you immediate feedback.  While you are working, the instructor will be glad to evaluate your progress and tell you whether your work is acceptable, and what you need to do or change to earn the points for that assignment.

Grading Scale
