Withdrawal and Incomplete Procedure
Fall 2006

Withdrawal

Parkland policy requires the student to monitor his or her progress in this course.  If after consulting with the instructor, the student feels it becomes necessary to withdraw from this course, it is the responsibility of the student to do so.  (Actually, you don't have to consult with me if you don't want to.  Sometimes that is just awkward and achieves nothing.   I will be glad to consult with you at any time about your progress, or about withdrawal, if you want, but I will not take it personally if you withdraw from the course without consulting me).

On the ten day roster, I am required to assess your attendance.  If you have not attended regularly to that point I will withdraw you.  I will judge attendance of the on-line students in Csc 125  Section 094 by their record of Angel login times, which I can access as your instructor.  After the ten day roster, you should not plan on an instructor withdrawal if you want to drop the course.  Non-attendance after the ten-day roster will result in an F if you don't withdraw yourself.

The last day you can withdraw with a “W” grade from this course is Friday, December 1, 2006.  (See Administrative Dates).  You can withdraw by going to the Registrar's Office or see Linda Crowley at the CSIT Department Office in B112.

You can withdraw on-line or by giving a form to the Registrar's office.  If you have questions about the withdrawal procedure, see your Parkland College catalog.

Incomplete

I rarely give an Incomplete grade in a course.  The reason is simple: most students that don't keep up during the course also don't make up the Incomplete.  I  have given an Incomplete grade for serious, verifiable events such as  pregnancy, the death of a close relative, and National Guard duty (results in IM grade).  I will not give an Incomplete unless you have a very good reason.

The Parkland and CSIT Department Incomplete process is well defined.  You must have finished 80% of the course.  If you have not finished 80% of the course, you have the option of withdrawing from the course, but not asking for an Incomplete.  Also, I can't just give you the Incomplete grade with the understanding that you will make up the missed material "sometime".  To get an Incomplete grade, we must create a written contract specifying exactly what you need to do to finish the course.  It must cover all of the missed material at the same depth as required during the semester.  The contract must be signed and submitted to the CSIT Department Chair, Maria Mobasseri.  If approved, you will have only until Midterm of the next semester to complete your work.  If not completed by Midterm, the Incomplete grade automatically changes to F.  Please see the Parkland Catalog for more details.
