Attendance and Grading Policies
Fall 2002

Class Attendance

Networking is a skill that you can only learn well by doing, and class is the best place to program because of the ready availability of help. We will discuss some practical techniques in class that are not covered in the course material. Also, you are responsible for everything covered in a class, whether you attend that particular class or not.

Attendance in class and full participation and effort in the class is required. If you do not attend and fully participate in at least 3/4 of the classes and exercises your final course grade may be reduced by a single letter grade. If you do not attend and fully participate in at least 2/3 of the classes and exercises your final course grade may be reduced by two letter grades. Students that miss more than ½ of the classes and labs will receive a course grade of 'F'.

Grading

The grading system is an achievement based score for satisfactory completion of the requirements of the course.  The required task completions are listed below.  You receive credit for completing each lab satisfactorily, each test within the stated criteria when the test is assigned, and the Semester 7 Practicum with a perfect configuration in 2 tries.  Most grading is done interactively with the instructor, with the instructor giving you immediate feedback.  If you do not receive credit for a specific task, you will be given a chance to make up the task and have it re-graded, but the absolute last date and time for completion and grading of any work is Friday, December 20th at 9:00 pm.
