CRIMINAL JUSTICE
EDUCATION
Social Sciences and Human Services
Department
Program Code: SCJE AA

Associate in Arts (A.A.)5
The following sequence of courses is designed
to provide transfer students with the
necessary background to complete a
bachelor's degree in criminal justice. Graduates
may enter careers in municipal, county,
state, and federal law enforcement agencies
or in the private security field. Students
interested in completing baccalaureate degrees
in criminal justice and related majors
are strongly encouraged to complete an A.A.
degree prior to transfer. To transfer into an
approved baccalaureate degree program in
criminal justice as juniors, students need
to complete a minimum of 60 semester
credits from the framework below. Since
admission is competitive, completion of the
recommended courses does not guarantee
admission.

Students should plan their transfer programs
with an academic adviser or counselor and
the catalog of the four year college or university
they plan to attend. Refer to the
general course requirements on p. 210 and
to the following courses as a guide to completing
an Associate in Arts degree.

This program has been designed for full and
part-time students.

1 Minimum of a three credit hour course in Third
World or non-Western culture is required in the
Humanities category.

2 For general education core courses, see p. 82.
Note that the Humanities and Fine Arts electives
must include at least one course selected from
humanities and at least one course from fine arts.

3 While these courses will be accepted in transfer
by baccalaureate institutions, they may or may
not substitute for professional course work required
for the major. However, the courses will
be accepted as general electives if not accepted
as core or elective courses in the major.

4 Must include two laboratory-based science
courses, one of which must be selected from life
sciences and one course from physical sciences.

5 Students must also fulfill the other graduation
requirements as listed on p. 208.

6 For general elective courses, see p. 83, Parkland Catalog
