Angel conferencing system:

We'll be using the Angel online conferencing system to submit papers and communicate with each other. You can access Angel through your Parkland Connection page or by typing angel.parkland.edu in your Web browser. If you've never used Angel, your initial login is your full Parkland email address (typed in lower-case letters). Your initial Angel password is your full Social Security number.

You'll find instructions for using Angel in the "Computer Use" file on the course web site and through links on Parkland's Online Learning  page:  http://online.parkland.edu/

Getting Started:

There is no need to send me an email just to tell me you're enrolled. Your initial contact with me and other students in the course will be through your post to the "Jeopardy" folder in Angel (see below).

Your Angel login will not be activated until a few days before the official start of classes, but you can begin reviewing the materials on the course web site at any time. Read Welcome and Syllabus, then go to the Computer Use file. You should print the Assignments & Calendar page, which has a calendar of textbook readings and paper assignments.

If you have problems logging in or using Angel, it's important that you contact Parkland's Distance Learning Department immediately. Keep in mind that the first few weeks of the semester are a busy time for Parkland technical staff, so there may be a delay before they can respond to your request. If you have not logged into Angel by the end of the second week of class, you will be dropped from the course.

When you log into Angel, click the "Lessons" tab. Read the "Welcome" message there and follow the instructions to post your first message (to the "Jeopardy" discussion forum).

The first paper assignment is a short introductory essay. Details are linked from the calendar on the Assignments  page. This file is also available under the "Lessons" tab in Angel.

Questions?

Visit Parkland's Online Learning site for helpful tips and links to other resources for online students.

Please note that I do not have access to enrollment data or Angel login settings.

If you have problems with enrollment or registration, call Parkland Admissions -- 217-351-2482.

If you have trouble logging in to Angel (after the course begins) or other technical problems, contact Brett Coup -- 217-403-1274 or bcoup@parkland.edu. During the first few weeks of the term, you'll probably get quicker help by telephone than by email.

If you have general questions about the course, send a message to me in Angel or to my home email listed above. Please do not use my @parkland.edu email address.
